This
is the great tale of Colorados best caffeine (or decaf, if
you wish). Enjoy.
Several years
ago, Peaberrys founder and president, Bill Tointon, decided
he really liked coffee. So much so, he wanted to not only roast
it, but also sell it. But how? What he knew about coffee back then
couldve fit in an espresso cup. And, thats not very
big.

But, he wasnt
alone. At the time, few people really knew the joys of a latte or
mocha, much less the art of selecting, roasting and "cupping"
a fine coffee. Heck, coffee was something that just was. Something
you buy in a big, red can at the grocery store, right?
Unfortunately,
yes.
But, with a
fistful of knowledge in one hand, and a fist full of green, Arabica
beans in the other; Bill set out to create the prefect cup.
Almost
like magic - it
happened.
With
a burp of genius, great coffee was born on October 15, 1990, in
Denver. Its name: Peaberry Coffee.
From the beginning,
Bill wanted a name that would clearly define what Peaberry Coffee
would grow to be the best.
"The Peaberry
name speaks volumes about quality coffee to aficionados. A 'peaberry'
is a small, round coffee bean that has rare and unique taste characteristics.
Rare, because a peaberry makes up only about 2% to 4% of the entire crop.
Many say its the best bean available."
With a great
name and an even better product, Peaberry Coffee braced itself to
tackle the palette of coffee lovers all over the Denver, Colorado
area. His strategy?
"Give
people a choice," Bill said. "The Peaberry customer tends
to be a sophisticated coffee drinker. Different coffees have nuances
and subtleties. Coffee could be compared to wine, and we dont
follow the one size fits all approach."
"We demand
the best," Bill says. "Bad coffee
can ruin your day."
Peaberry, simply,
wanted their coffee in every pot. Coffee pot, that is. To please
everyone, and further distinguish itself from big, national chains,
Peaberry Coffee introduced its flavor profile system with great
success.
After all,
if people are buying their coffee at the grocery store and if the
number one seller comes in a big, red can, how could Peaberry educate
its customers to believe that a few bucks more could get them a
great cup of coffee, but a cup of culture?
The
Peaberry Profile System created not only choice but also interesting
information for the consumer. Since Peaberry Coffee offers the largest
selection of locally roasted beans (over 40 varieties), the Profile
System enables Peaberrys customers like you
to easily identify and select coffee best suited for their individual
taste. Whether you like your coffee Light & Mild or more Dark
& Intense, we have it. And because each of our four categories
has nearly a dozen varieties, you can try a number of coffees that
match the taste profile you like best.
Who says you
cant please everyone?
